Check out the origins of Killer Instinct and its 2013 return

Killer Instinct continues to pop up around the web, now in the form of a full-length documentary. YouTube channel Hold Back to Block released “FIGHT ON: The Killer Instinct Story” earlier today. The documentary goes through the interesting history of Killer Instinct and its release in 2013.

Below, you can see a trailer for the documentary that introduces the challenge of creating Killer Instinct in 2013. The documentary shows several developers and people in the gaming industry chomping at the bit to work on Killer Instinct.

Killer Instinct is an interesting game because it improved significantly after its initial release. The game launched with only nine fighters in rough shape, but several seasons of expansions and improvements fleshed out the game. Over time, the game even gained guests from the Xbox roster, such as the Arbiter from Halo and General RAAM from Gears of War.

The game was well received, thanks to its low-input lag, visuals, and gameplay style. Eventually, Killer Instinct launched on Steam and hit 10 million players. But in 2017, support dropped and the game fell out of the limelight. But that seems to have changed in 2020. A #BringBackKI campaign on Twitter and a push from influencers in the community have pushed Killer Instinct forward.

Killer Instinct is experiencing a bit of an online revival, possible tournament news incoming

The campaign seems to have worked as Killer Instinct was added to the Evo Online lineup for 2020, including an open tournament. At this point, it’s unclear why it’s been included, but fans of the franchise seem excited to see it added to the event.
