Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches on Xbox One and PC

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the spiritual reboot of the popular first-person shooter from a while back. It brings back many of the same characters — and many of the same situations — but presents them in a more relevant light. The campaign seems to be dark and disturbing, exactly what players wanted.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is finally available on Xbox One and PC, and looks great on the systems. The PC version is the one we reviewed and it’s definitely photorealistic. However, on Xbox One X, it’s no slouch. The game features high resolution rendering and textures, and seems to be locked at 60 frames per second during the campaign and multiplayer.

If you want to pick up the title, you can do so for $60. However, there are other versions available which cost more. The game won’t introduce microtransactions or other such mechanics, but there will be a seasonal Battle Pass which gives you added perks when you’re playing multiplayer. Additionally, keep in mind that a mode is exclusive to PlayStation 4 for a year.

In Windows Central’s review, James Bricknell wrote, “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare feels like a return to form that made Infinity Ward such a name in first-person games. The story is good, though hampered by Infinity Ward trying a little too hard to be edgy. I don’t like the term edgy, but it fits. You can make people think without making them feel gross. It’s a fine line, and one I don’t believe Infinity Ward entirely walked correctly.”
