Call of Duty: Modern Warfare ditches season pass for battle passes

Whenever a new Call of Duty game launches, there are those who absolutely love the experience, but then there are those who have issues with its business model. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare wants to make the experience fair for everyone and is changing up how it handles post-launch content.

Today, the team announced certain changes to the way it’ll introduce new maps and features going forward. By introducing cross-play between consoles and PC, removing the season pass and separate multiplayer packs, delivering free multiplayer maps, and launching almost all modes simultaneously across all devices, Activision has made great strides to fixing the franchise’s image. However, it gets even better.

Instead of requiring the purchase of an expensive season pass that could be almost the same price as the full game, the publisher will introduce a Battle Pass. This isn’t a loot box system and never will be. Firstly, all of the gameplay advantage items can be unlocked by playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The new Battle Pass system will allow players to see the content that they are earning or buying.

Battle Passes will launch timed to new seasons. It’s unclear how much each of them will cost, but we’re hoping it’s in the $10-15 range just like Fortnite or Destiny 2. The Battle Pass and the in-game store will feature a variety of cosmetic content that does not impact game balance. However, we’ll have to wait until we get our hands on the game to be the judge of that.

The Battle Pass won’t launch on October 25 so that everyone has a chance to play the base game and get the unlocks. However, it’s probably going to come later in November or December, because the team said that it was launching this year. What do you think of these changes? Do you think they’re fair? Let us know.

Look who’s back!
