Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s cancelled campaign has leaked

Reddit user ForeverDexus appears to have posted footage from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s campaign that never made it to the final release. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was the first game in the series to not include a single-player campaign, though Treyarch did apparently toy with one before eventually scrapping it in favor of putting all of its effort into the multiplayer.

It appears that ForeverDesux did some digging and found this in an “incredibly obscure” place, and it wasn’t leaked to them from anyone at Treyarch. The footage uses the same HUD found in the game’s multiplayer, but one mission objective can be seen at the beginning, which is to “Find the Aquilus CEO.”

Back in 2018, Treyarch told Eurogamer that there was “”never a traditional campaign” planned for Black Ops 4, but it looks like the studio did toy with it in one form or another, and that may be the reason we see the mutliplayer HUD in use here. Whatever the case, it’s a neat glimpse into what could have been.

Remember when Activision just straight up dropped the single-player?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 wasn’t as beloved as some of its predecessors, choosing to forego a single-player campaign in favor of its multiplayer. It did pave the way for battle royale in Call of Duty with Blackout, however, and that shouldn’t be ignored.
