Bethesda confirms QuakeCon 2022 will be a digital-only event

While Bethesda’s annual QuakeCon event is returning later this year, there won’t be a physical gathering, in line with the 2020 and 2021 celebrations.
Bethesda shared on Wednesday that QuakeCon 2022 will be a digital-only event. The company cites uncertainty in planning the event months ahead of time. More details will be coming in June 2022, when there will be more exact information on the events, panels, charities, and more. QuakeCon 2022 is being held on August 18 through August 20, 2022.
“Like you, we’re disappointed not to return to Dallas,” Bethesda wrote on Twitter. “An event of this size requires months of planning, and in this case, we had to make decisions when there was still too much uncertainty to commit to successfully executing an in-person QuakeCon.”
Bethesda notes that looking ahead, the company is aiming to return to a physical presence in Dallas, Texas with QuakeCon in 2023, with planning already underway for an event that will include “… tons of great new games and hardware” for attendees to try.
Bethesda also held an all-digital QuakeCon in 2021, with some reveals including a remastered Quake for modern platforms, as well as the announcement of Skyrim Anniversary Edition.
Microsoft finished acquiring ZeniMax Media in March 2021, adding Bethesda Softworks to the roster of Xbox first-party development. Bethesda currently has two games slated to launch later in 2022, with Arkane Austin’s Redfall and Bethesda Game Studios’ Starfield scheduled to arrive in Summer 2022 and on Nov. 11, 2022, respectively.
