Upcoming shooter Battlefield 2042 features cross-play and cross-progression, per Electronic Arts. The announcement on Wednesday addressed several features in the game, explaining how progress will work and confirming that friends on different platforms can play together if they choose to opt in.

Players on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PS5 and PC can all play together if they enable the setting, while Xbox One and PS4 players will also be able to enjoy the game in cross-platform matchmaking. Cross-play is not enabled across the different hardware generations due to differences in the game versions, with the current-generation version of Battlefield 2042 featuring 128-player support.

There’s lots of new tweaks for players to test out, with ten Specialists at launch and cross-progression, so you can take your progress wherever you go. Developer DICE has also confirmed that the upcoming Battlefield 2042 technical test has been pushed back later in the summer to an unknown date.

More modes in the game have yet to be revealed, including one developed by Ripple Effect, an EA studio formerly known as DICE LA that has provided support on the Battlefield franchise in the past. We’ll see this mode at EA Play on July 22, which is one of the remaining big upcoming video game events this year.
