Ubisoft Forward, as a part of the much larger E3 2021 conference, just wrapped up with a surprising number of trailers and announcements packed in. One of the highlights of the show was absolutely the reveal of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. While no gameplay footage was shown off in the first look trailer, we did see some gorgeous cinematics set in the Avatar universe on planet Pandora. The game is still a ways away from being released, but something interesting was confirmed in the trailer description for the game.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a current-gen console exclusive, meaning it’s only heading to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PS5, PC, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna. Xbox One and PS4 versions are not in the works at the moment, and likely never will be.

While this alone doesn’t tell us much about Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, it is interesting that it’s being “developed exclusively for the new generation of consoles and PC” by Massive Entertainment (a Ubisoft studio), Lightstorm Entertainment, and Disney.

There’s still a lot we don’t know about the game. We know it’s an open-world action-adventure game, but gameplay, multiplayer versus singleplayer, finalized visuals, and more all remain a mystery. We’ll have to wait longer to see more of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which is supposed to officially release sometime in 2022.

A game set in the Avatar universe could be very fascinating indeed, and its even more so because of its current-gen exclusivity. It’s too early to tell, but Ubisoft could have another of the best Xbox games on its hands.
