Amazfit T-Rex Pro pictures and specs leak – launch imminent

Rumors of an Amazfit T-Rex Pro landed back in January, and now a new leak has given us a full picture of what to expect.

For the uninitiated, the Amazfit T-Rex was launched early last year and is the Chinese company’s version of the Garmin Fenix or other chunky outdoor watches.

The information has been leaked to 91Mobiles, which as a good track record. It features a rugged 47mm case, chunky build with plenty of GPS battery life designed to be used in the outdoors. The Amazfit T-Rex Pro lands a year later, and as expected it’s not a major overhaul of the device.

New biometric tech will bring the T-Rex in line with newer Amazfit smartwatches such as the GTS 2 and Bip U Pro. The T-Rex Pro uses the BioTracker 2 core, which will offer SpO2. Software features are still TBC, but we’d expect to see the same stress tracking and blood oxygen monitoring seen on the company’s smartwatch offerings.

The design is pretty much unchanged, and will be available in black, grey and green. There won’t be the same camo design as the original version.

The leak alleges that there will be a new operating system on board “based on RTOS” – so it will be interesting whether that changes the usability, battery life or feature set on board.

The company has added new GPS standards, which should boost accuracy and lock-on speeds.

And it’s now rated 10ATM, which means it can survive up to 100m underwater, making it even more rugged.

It’s not clear whether the T-Rex Pro will also get Alexa and wrist-calling functionality, as we’ve seen on the Bip U Pro. It seems like it will, although the leak just refers to hardware specs so far.

The Amazfit T-Rex is built by Huami, which has just changed its name to Zepp Health outside of China. It snapped up the Zepp brand back in 2019 and renamed its app earlier this year.

The Amazfit T-Rex will likely launch in China and India before the West, and our spidey-senses tell us we won’t have long to wait.
