Amazfit launches 42mm GTR Mini smartwatch with 14-day battery life

The Amazfit GTR 4 launched in September, a 46mm smartwatch with a large round 1.43” display. Is that too big? Then check out the new Amazfit GTR Mini, which just arrived in India at a price of ₹11,000 (the GTR 4 goes for ₹17,000). By the way, the GTR Mini launched in the US, the UK and the EU a couple of days ago at $120/£130/€130.

The Mini earns its name with its 42mm chassis, which is also thinner and lighter at 9.25mm and 24.6g, compared to 12.4mm and 34g for the large model. The watch takes 20mm straps with a quick release mechanism (the included strap is made out of skin-friendly silicone).

The Mini has a 1.28” AMOLED display with 326ppi pixel density, that’s the same sharpness as the large one. Both watches promise up to 14 days of battery life. The smaller model has a 280mAh power cell, which takes a couple of hours to charge.

While it is smaller and cheaper, the Mini is almost as capable as the GTR. The watch has a built-in GPS receiver with Amazfit’s patented circularly-polarized antenna, which boosts signal reception. The watch supports 5 global positioning systems in total (note: the larger model also supports dual-band positioning). The battery can last up to 25 hours with continuous GPS tracking.

The GTR Mini has over 120 sports modes and with its 5 ATM water resistance (50m), it can go swimming with you too. The fitness data recorded by the watch can be shared with Google Fit and Apple Health, as well as apps like Strava, Relive and Adidas Running.

For health tracking, the watch does 24/7 heart rate and SpO2 monitoring. The sensor is fast enough that the One-Tap Measuring function can report its result in as little as 15 seconds. Sleep tracking detects light, deep and REM sleep and also keeps an eye out for any breathing issues while you sleep. When you wake up, you will be greeted with your (customizable) morning update.

Like its bigger sibling, the GTR Mini runs ZeppOS 2.0, which supports third-party apps. You can add membership and club cards via the Zepp App and create handy shortcut widgets that can quickly show important info like your To-Do list or the alarm clock. Of course, you can see notifications from your phone on the watch. However, you can take calls on it (there is no speaker or mic on board).
