Amazfit GTS 2 Mini is official – and it’s curvy

Amazfit has confirmed the launch of another new smartwatch – the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini.

The latest Amazfit smartwatch will launch on 1 December, the company confirmed on Weibo. The shots above are reportedly from a teaser video shared by Huami CEO Huang Wang (via Gadgets 360) – but we’ve not been able to find the original to verify.

Hot on the heels of the global launch of the Amazfit GTS 2, the GTS 2 Mini shrinks the physical size and changes for a curvier shape, which looks more Fitbit than Apple Watch.

It’s aimed at a younger crowd, and is allegedly thinner, lighter and smaller than the GTS 2.

The GTS 2 did add a bunch of new features compared to the original GT, with SpO2, stress tracking all added.

We actually felt that many of these new features detracted from the simplicity of the Amazfit GTS, with the software and insights not adding much to the experience.

And the GTS 2 also climbed in price, and the $179.99 price tag comes much closer to the Fitbit Versa 3 and Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 – both of which deliver a beter software experience.

So the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini could be a nice bridge. We’re not sure how much it will cost or the specifics of the watch, but we’d like to see it retail GPS and sit in the $100 bracket.

That would in turn bridge the gap between the Amazfit Bip S (and possibly the incoming Bip U).

The budget smartwatch market is getting increasingly crowded, and the really hot space seems to be sub-$100. We’ve seen Amazfit go there with the Bip S, and Xiaomi seems to be gearing up with the Xiaomi Mi Watch Color Sports Edition and Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite.

We’ve also seen Mobvoi aggressively target that price point with the $55 Ticwatch GTX.

We’ll be testing all of these devices over the coming weeks and months so watch this space.
