Amazfit GTR 3 Pro v GTR 3 v GTS 3: Design

Design

Amazfit GTS 3 and GTR 3

We’ll start with the GTR 3 Pro, with its 46mm watch case body made from an aluminium alloy with the option of brown leather or black colors. As a package, it weighs in at 32g.

The GTR 3 like the Pro, is a round watch measuring in with a slightly smaller 45mm case also made from an aluminium alloy with the option of grey and black colors. You’re also getting a watch that weighs 32g. Like the Pro, it uses 22mm straps that are removable.

The GTS 3 is the option to go for if you want a square smartwatch. It features a smaller 42mm aluminium alloy case matched up with 20mm interchangeable straps that comes in three different colors and weighs in the lightest at 24.4g. It has just the single button compared to the two you get on the GTR 3 and GTR 3 Pro.

In the screen departments, the GTR 3 Pro packs a a 1.45-inch, 480 x 480 AMOLED touchscreen display offering the highest screen resolution of the three.

The GTR 3 hosts a 1.39-inch, 454 x 454 AMOLED display and the GTS 3 comes with a 1.75-inch 390 x 450 screen.

There’s no separating the three on the water resistance front with all offering a 5ATM rating making them safe to swim with in water up to 50 metres depth.

If you are all about having the best screen, the GTR 3 Pro will get you that. If you care about color options, then the GTS 3 actually offers the most looks. It’s also the lightest too.

Amazfit GTR 3 Pro v GTR 3 v GTS 3: Smartwatch features

Amazfit GTR 3 Pro

Amazfit GTR 3 Pro

The word Pro does indicate that you might well be getting a few software extras with the GTR 3 Pro over the cheaper GTR 3 and GTS 3. Crucially, all models work with Android and iOS devices.

We’ll start with the Pro, which runs on the new Zepp OS, which brings new UI animations, an app store front that does support third party apps and access for developers to create watch faces.

Core smartwatch features include notifications support weather forecasts, music controls and a built in music player. Though the latter doesn’t work with third party services currently.

You can also use it to make calls when paired to your phone over Bluetooth and it can be used a smartphone camera remote. There’s also access to Amazon Alexa and Zepp’s own offline voice assistant to give you better hands-free control of core watch features.

Flipping it over to the GTR 3 and GTS 3 and they largely match the Pro for smartwatch features. They also run on that new Zepp OS bringing all the same extras. It has those two smart assistants and will let you control music playing back on your phone.

What they seem to miss out on is the added Wi-Fi connectivity, the ability to make calls over Bluetooth, which is tied to the lack of an onboard speaker.

That also means the non-Pro models miss out on a built-in music player too. So that’s some big features missing, though will entirely depend on how much you value making calls, and piling on your own music onto a watch to leave your phone behind for a run.

Amazfit GTR 3 Pro v GTR 3 v GTS 3: Health and fitness tracking

Health and fitness tracking

Amazfit GTS 3

While Zepp has certainly been ramping up the smartwatch features on its watch to better compete with other full fat smartwatches, it’s always been well stocked when it comes to tracking things like exercise or keeping tabs on your health without suggesting it’s going to offer serious medical insights.

On the sensor front, these three are evenly matched. You’re getting the latest BioTracker 3.0 optical sensor, which delivers heart rate monitoring, stress monitoring and blood oxygen levels.

You’re getting accelerometer and gyroscope motion sensors across the board to track movement and the ability to measure elevation with all three. All models offer the same satellite positioning support covering the five key satellite systems to make sure your outdoor exercise tracking is nice and accurate.

Amazfit GTR 3 advanced fitness specs

Amazfit GTR 3

With the GTR 3 Pro, you’re getting the addition of a temperature sensor, which you don’t get on the GTR 3 and GTS 3. Though, based on our experience, it wasn’t hugely reliable.

It also has the new one tap measurement to get readings for heart rate, breathing rate, blood oxygen and stress level in a single 45-second measurement. that’s also available on the GTS 3 and the GTR 3 too.

When you’re tracking your fitness, all of support for the same 150+ sports modes including the likes of running, cycling, swimming, climbing, hiking and indoor workouts like rowing and the Elliptical.

You’re getting automatic exercise recognition for 8 of those 150 sports modes. You can also view the new PeakBeats insights on all watches, letting you see data like training load, VO2 Max and exercise recovery time.

They’ll all work as 24/7 activity trackers to count steps and monitor sleep and naps, breaking down sleep stages, sleep breathing quality and basics like duration. Zepp’s PAI Health assessment scores are also available across the devices too.

If you want to fire your data over to other apps, all three watches support the ability to sync data with Strava, Google Fit and Relive apps too.

So what you’re really gaining here going Pro over the non-Pro watches is the temperature sensor, which we didn’t find particularly useful in its current state. Other than that, you’re getting most of the same features.

Amazfit GTR 3 Pro v GTR 3 v GTS 3: Battery life

Previous Amazfit GTR and GTS watches have promised big battery life, but getting that big battery life entirely depends on what features you have in regular use.

With the GTR 3 Pro, Zepp says the 450mAh capacity battery can get you up to 12 days in typical use, up to 30 days in battery saver mode, up to 6 days in heavy usage and 35 hours of GPS battery life.

The GTR 3 also has a 450mAh capacity battery and that should get you up to 21 days in typical use, up to 35 days in battery saver mode, up to 10 days in heavy usage and the same 35 hours of GPS battery life.

The GTS 3 packs the smallest capacity battery with its 250mAh one delivering up to 12 day in typical use, up to 20 days in battery saver mode, up to 6 days in heavy usage and 20 hours of GPS battery life.

So the GTR 3 will in theory get you the best battery numbers across the board and matches the Pro for GPS battery performance too. As we said, it really depends on what features are turned on like using them with the screen set to always-on, enabling continuous heart rate monitoring and turning on richer sleep features can noticeable dent the battery life

There’s no quick charging features on any of these watches, so you can expect them to spend around 2-2.5 hours on the charger if they’re entirely flat and you want to get back up to 100%.

Amazfit GTR 3 Pro v GTR 3 v GTS 3: Verdict

We’ve compared designs, specs and all the key software ins and outs so with your money on the line, where should you be spending it? Here’s our take:

Buy the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro… If you want the best smartwatch features that the Amazfit watches currently have to offer including that built-in speaker and music player.

Buy the Amazfit GTR 3… If you also want a round smartwatch look with similar stature and look to the Pro and can live without making calls over Bluetooth and that added Wi-Fi connectivity.

Buy the Amazfit GTS 3… If you want a smaller fitting smartwatch that largely matches the Pro and the GTR 3 for features across the board and you’re not fussed about having hours of GPS battery life.
