Amazfit Band 5 is the supercharged Mi Band – and it’s available now

The Amazfit Band 5 is now available on Amazon, and it’s a supercharged Xiaomi Mi Band 5, with Alexa built in and advanced health sensors.

The upgraded fitness band costs $49.99 and will ship on 30 September and you can pre-order it now.

If that sounds familiar, that’s because it’s sporting the exact specs we reported in the run up to the Mi Band 5 launch.

Those leaks, which then turned into speculation of a Mi Band 5 Pro, referenced a product codenamed “York” at Huami. But this seems like it was actually the Amazfit Band 5 all along. Amazfit and Huami are both Xiaomi subsidiaries.

Amazfit does push towards a more prosumer audience when it comes to fitness, at least in the Chinese market.

So it makes sense that the Amazfit Band 5 shows off these features ahead of the Xiaomi Mi branded device.

Amazfit Band 5 specs and features

In terms of the look and feel it’s almost indistinguishable from the Mi Smart Band 5. But there are slight differences. It’s slightly smaller at 7.52 x 2.99 x 0.91 inches.

It’s water-resistant to 50 metres and there are 15 days battery life advertised, but we assume that will be slashed if you start using the SpO2 and the other advanced features.

But it’s Amazon Alexa that leads the feature sheet of the Amazfit Band 5.

You can use the voice assistant to ask questions, set alarms, and timers, create shopping lists, check the weather, and control smart home devices.

There doesn’t seem to be a speaker though, so you won’t get the same experience you’d get from an Alexa smart speaker.

The rest of the features do mirror each other, with PAI used to offer a single score based on your weekly fitness and activity, and there’s guided breathing and menstrual tracking too.

Like the Mi Band 5 there are 11 dedicated sport tracking profiles.

It’s available on Amazon US in black and orange.
