The Warhammer franchise has spanned almost every entertainment media you can think of, including a huge series of video games, novels, board games, and more. Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a first-person co-op action game from Warhammer: Vermintide developer Fatshark, and it seeks to continue growing this bewilderingly deep universe. Today, Fatshark has announced that they’ve partnered with esteemed New York Time’s Bestselling author Dan Abnett to help write Darktide.
If you’re not familiar with Dan Abnett’s work, he is a highly-accomplished author that has previously written for major franchises including Marvel, DC, Dark Horse Comics, Doctor Who, and more with both comic books and novels under his belt. He also has a ton of prior experience with the Warhammer universe, having written several Warhammer 40,000 novels in the past. It makes a ton of sense to partner with Dan Abnett on Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, and will hopefully ensure the game is as awesome as possible for Warhammer fans.
From Dan Abnett:
Working with Fatshark has been fantastic. It’s great to partner with them and see their amazing skills create the universe of Warhammer 40K in vivid, realistic and interactive ways. Things I’ve only imagined before, or created in prose, are exploding into life.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a grim first-person co-op action game set on the planet Tertium, where you and your squad need to take on the roles of Imperial Guards and investigate the cult known as the Admonition.
Not a huge amount is currently known about one of the newest entries to the Warhammer universe, but we do know that Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is releasing on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC with a planned release window of 2021.
