Galaxy Tab S6 gets firmware update including December security patch

Samsung is rolling out a new firmware update including the December 2019 security patch for the Galaxy Tab S6. The update is available only in Germany at the time of this writing, and it’s hitting both the Wi-Fi-only (SM-T860) as well as the LTE-enabled (SM-T865) variants. The firmware carries build number T860XXU1ASL3 and T865XXU2ASL3; it weighs around 400MB, and it should include other features and/or improvements aside from the December 2019 security patch. We are unable to verify exactly what changes were introduced through this update, but you can read all about the December 2019 security patch in our monthly report. It fixes a wide variety of vulnerabilities in Android OS as well as Samsung’s own custom software. One of the more severe vulnerabilities affecting Android OS could technically allow remote attackers to run code on the affected device. It shouldn’t take long before the new firmware version hits other markets, but Galaxy Tab S6 owners residing in Germany should be able to download the update by opening Settings and accessing the Software update section. They can also skip this process and download the firmware for SM-T860 and SM-T865 from our archive (hit the links for your respective tablet variant) and apply it on your device using a Windows PC.
