Xiaomi ships 3 million Mi Band 6 trackers

Xiaomi has announced that it’s shipped 3 million units of its latest fitness tracker.

The news was announced on Weibo ahead of the 618 Shopping Carnival by Zeng Xuezhong, Vice President of Xiaomi Group and President of Mobile Phone Division. It comes just two months after its release date on 2 April 2021. It shows the enormous global clout that Xiaomi has as a wearables brand.

To put that in context, CCS Insight estimated that Garmin only shipped 3.4 million units of its entire smartwatch range in the whole of 2020. Although Apple was estimated to have shipped 43.6 million in the same period.

And Xiaomi will be extra pleased, given the increase in price of the Mi Band 6 from previous generations.

When the Mi Band 6 arrived on the scene in 2015, it turned heads with a $25 price tag that offered unbeatable value.

But the Mi Band 6 has shipped at close to $50 in the US, and it led us at Wareable to speculate that it could lead to cooling interest in the budget brand. And there are other factors at play, not least the launch of similarly priced devices such as the Amazfit Band 5 – and even cheaper ones like the Realme Band.

But it seems that customers have stayed loyal to the Mi Band, and its enduring popularity in Asia, as well as US availability have fuelled big sales.
