Amazfit GTS2 (and GTR2) could land on 22 September

In case there weren’t enough smartwatches being released this month, it seems two new Amazfits could be unveiled.

Last month we reported the rumor that the Amazfit GTS2 and GTR2 could be shown off at IFA. And while that came and went without incident, Amazfit has now released a teaser of its new watches on Weibo.

We say teaser. In true Chinese brand style, the ‘teaser’ gives us a full look at what the new watches will look like, attached to a date for the forthcoming event.

Both watches don’t feel like a huge departure from the originals.

The GTS2 (the square version of the Amazfit GT pair) looks like it has a little more finesse on the casing.

The build certainly didn’t impress in our Amazfit GTS review, and is the weakest part of the smartwatch with a plasticky, bland finish. So it looks like the design stakes have been upped for the second generation.

Likewise the GTR2 has gone on a serious diet. The bezel has been shrunk dramatically, for an all-round sleeker, better-looking device.

The teasers reveal an event scheduled for 22 September 2020.

There’s no clue on what new features we might see. The Amazfit GTS features GPS and sports tracking features, so we might see new SpO2 technology. And now we’ve seen the Zepp E from Amazfit, we could see some more sports content and things like guided workouts.

We’ll be reporting what gets announced, so check back for more information.
