Amazfit GTR 2 LTE is on the way – with new T-Rex also rumored

Amazfit had a crazy end to 2020 with a host of new smartwatches, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to let up any time soon.

A host of new rumors have pointed to new smartwatches incoming, including an LTE version of the GTR 2, a new version of the Health Watch and a T-Rex Pro.

Gizmochina reports a leak from a tipster with a proven track record – although most of his predictions are supported by FCC filings and teasers from Huami.

Amazfit GTR 2 LTE

Amazfit is due to release an LTE version of the GTR 2, which would be the first connected smartwatch from Huami.

It’s been officially teased by the company, which rarely likes to keep its plans fully under wraps.

It’s expected that only the GTR 2 will get an eSIM version – with the square GTS staying Bluetooth only for now.

The existing GTR2 and GTS2 already have the ability to make and receive calls when paired with an Android smartphone, so we’re expecting the same kind of restrictions for the new LTE version.

There’s no ETA on when we might expect it – and we could see this leap being China only at the beginning due to the close relationship LTE smartwatch manufacturers need with carriers.

Health Watch Pro

It’s also rumored the company will launch a Amazfit Health Watch Pro.

The original Health Watch that has remained in China since its launch in 2019, which is unsurprising given it boasts ECG functionality, alongside the usual heart rate features and logging and reporting of health data. The chances of Amazfit getting FDA clearance seems slim.

We have no idea what the Health Watch Pro will add, but we’d expect SpO2 and the improved BioTracker 2.0 at least. But we can’t see a global release here.

Amazfit T-Rex Pro

And finally there’s the Amazfit T-Rex Pro. This has cleared through the FCC indicating an imminent release – although there are no specs or details.

The ‘Pro’ moniker indicates an interim update rather than a change of design – so we could see the stress, advanced sleep and SpO2 features that have been a fixture of its 2020 releases make it onto the rugged T-Rex outdoor watch.

As ever, all this is conjecture. We’ll bring you official news when we have it.
